New Stuff

Ok, so Ash and I haven't been in a while due to the craziness of life, but here's what I've been able to gather from emails, etc. Basically, we are starting a contemporary service at our church!

Sun, Feb 1--Visit to Memorial United Methodist Church in Greer. The service starts at 9, so if you're carpooling, meet at the Wood's house between 8-8:15.
Directions: From I-85, take exit 56 (Hwy 14), and go toward Greer. 1 block past the stoplight at Arlington Ave.
From 29, turn onto Hwy 14 toward Greer--1 block past the stoplight at Arlington Ave.

Becky has added the outreach committee, chaired by Suzanne K.), to the matrix David C. prepared.

Tyler emailed the pastor at the church we're visiting, who has some pointers for us as we move forward. The T-man is also finding out when the Admin Board meets so we can get the word out. Some of us may need to help him present. He's also requesting a sit-down meeting with the director of contemporary service to get some more pointers for how they began their service.

David C is busy and apparently always is on his cell, making sure things get done.

Suzanne is looking into community outreach needs, and Kinsey is planning social activities.

We will need people to give messages (hence the contemporary service). Some possible volunteers include: Eric, Tyler, Chas, and Lin. God bless you!

Ash and I have offered our sound equipment for use, but we have transportation issues bringing it back and forth every week (the 3 dogs travel with us from Boiling Springs to TR each week). It's expensive, so it'll need to be locked up somewhere that isn't someone else's space.

Susan S and Ros are talking to Perry about all of this. He is very enthusiastic and excited that our group may become the largest in the church. We've heard nothing but positive feedback!

All of this is so great and I think it is just the injection of newness that our church is dying without. There are some logistics, so stay tuned and see how you can help.

Looking to the future...
Sun, Feb. 8--Meet in the old chapel at 9 to get a feel for potential service. Remember, there is another church using our chapel right now, so that may not be an option.

Sun, May 8 (Mother's Day)--We're doing the service during the main service hour. We need you!

PS -- Please remember that YOU are an author of this blog as well. It is set up that way. (I'm re-sending the invitations to become an author if you aren't one yet.) In your upper right corner, you should see "New Post" if you're signed in. That is for you to post your thoughts! I want this to be a collective sharing of ideas throughout the week.

PS again -- Ash and I are struggling with direction with the youth. Right now we are doing the Jr. High and the Sr. High all night Sunday (it used to be done by different people at the same time). The Catron's have offered their house (since we don't have one) for parties, so thank them! Ash and I committed to this on a temporary basis, to keep families from leaving the church, but are not yet equipped to do it indefinitely, which has become the perception. Our hearts want to be in too many places at once! Just keep the word out in the congregation--we would REALLY appreciate it.
